FIVE FOR CREATING with Craig Johnson

Welcome to Five for Creating! An interview series here at CXCBuzz where we focus on getting to know Indie Creators and what they are working on through a series of five questions. This week we chat with Comic Creator Craig Johnson who is currently Kickstarting his new issue of Project Saviour!

Project: Saviour #4 Cover:  Judgment

1. Tell us about Project Saviour.

Project: Saviour is about a young man who one day finds out he has powers. This leads him on a path to learning the origin of his powers. Which, in turn, leads to him being put through a crucible of challenges that will shape his destiny. The series will look at the toll it would take on someone who wanted to be a super-hero. How do you deal with the fact you can’t save everyone? How do you decide how far you will go? Can you control your emotions and not become a killer yourself? These are some of the question I will be exploring in this book.

2. Your character is unnamed, is there a future plan to give him a name, or do you like the mystique of the mystery man mentality?

He does have a name, but I’m not revealing that just yet. This was always the plan, to keep it a mystery and let people come up with their own theories. Some, so far, have been really interesting.

3. What does the future hold for Project Saviour? What can the reader expect going forward?

Very exciting times ahead! The first arc is almost at an end and there is going to be an epic clash of titans and he will finally don the suit you see in the beginning of issue 1.  Issue 5 will see Sarah take front and center and show you the world of Project: Saviour from her eyes.  A huge character is heading to the Project: Saviour world in issue 9, who was hinted at near the end of issue 2.

4. The response to your first Kickstarter has been tremendous. What does it mean to see such support from your fans?

It means so much to me! Honestly it’s amazing and extremely humbling. I am in awe of everyone that has supported the campaign, I have the best fans ever!

5. Here at ComixCentral we are all about promoting all things Indie. With that being said, besides yourself and your projects, what is one Indie Property or creator you think people need to go check out right now?

This is a super hard question. Do I have to just pick one? I have like 5. I absolutely love THE MAROON and Derick Lipscomb is an awesome human being. THE PALE is fantastic by Jay and Sanders Fabares, DEAD RONIN By Luke Brown, PIZZA BOYZ by Spencer Scott Holmes, THE LIFE OF NIL By Jamie and Helen Boyle  to name but a few.

Craig Johnson – Creator / Illustrator / Writer / Editor

I am a comic creator, my day job is dealing with people and repairing their broken electronics.

This comic has been on my mind for 11 years. That’s how long it took to get issue 1 right and out for the world to see. This is a story i know is worth telling, this is a new superhero for a new generation.

I grew up loving Batman, from the age of about 2 i have been some would say obsessed. I love the stories, the design and the cape. Capes are awesome!

I came up with the story of Project: Saviour while i was studying at university, It’s a story of tragedy, adventure and mystery with everything else threw in for good measure.  What if you found one day you had powers? Would you use them for good? What happens if you decide to try and become a hero? If the people love you, would you let it go to your head? What if they hated you? would you turn your back on them? These are just some the questions this series will address. The main question being;

How far would you go to save the world?
